(From Our Own Correspondent.) IIALCOAIBE, April 16. At the annual meeting of the ilalcomhe branch of the R.S.A. members stood in silence as a mark of respect to both the late Rt. Hon. At. J. Savage and Mr D. Warner, who was a member of the branch. The president (Air K. W. Cowdrey) submitted the report which read, inter alia : “The finances are in a healthy state, the balance in hand being £64 4s. The membership now stands at 32, which is only two fewer than last year’s. Sales of poppies increased by £l 13s, the total result being £l6 13s. The concert showed a profit of £5 Bs. Sales of disabled soldiers' work amounted to £ll 4s 6d. This effort is much appreciated by the executive. Mr T. R. Vile, ail ex-president, was tendered a farewell, and members of this branch wish him well in his new sphere. The death of Air D. Warner came as a big shock to members and our sympathy goes out to the bereaved.” 'The election of officers resulted: President, A4r E. W. Cowdrey: secretary, Air it. D. Elgar; vice-president, Air W. S. Page; committee, Alossrs R. Williams, A. E. Prior, R. Fergusson, N. E. Ashworth and A. C. Boswell; auditor, Air J. O'Sullivan; trustees, Alresrs E. W. Cowdrey and R, D. Elgar. Mr F. Allen, of the Feilding executive, gave an interesting talk on all phases of the association’s activities. Messrs Cowdrey, Elgar, Alills and Trior will address the children on Anzae Day at the Haleombe, Kakariki, Stanway and Tokoraagi Schools, reflectively. The sale of poppies this year will lie undertaken by Messrs Prior, McKay, Pago, Williams, R. Fergusson, Ashworth and Elgar. Arrangements were made for Anzac Day service. Mre U. Williams presided over the April meeting of the Women’s Institute. Mrs Simpson, of Alakino, who was to have given a demonstration, was unavoidably absent. Mesdames A. Sehaoron and B. Bradley undertook the duties of sunshine members. Hostesses for the May meeting will be Mesdames G. Curtis, R. Budding and N. Ashworth. A donation of a fruit cake by Airs Stone to help defray expenses for soldiers’ parcels was received. Mesdames R. Williams and N. Ashworth wore appointed delegates lo the Oroua Council meeting. A roll-call “Whore did you meet your husband?” provoked much merriment and a travel talk by Airs AI. James proved very interesting. The hostesses wore Alcsdamos D. C. Mnnagh, A. Stone, A. Ward and Aliss D. Field: The competitions resulted, cabbage, Mrs D. Alanagh 1, Miss O. Fergusson 2. Miss E. Field 3: tomato sauce, Mrs ,1. L. Ferguson 1, Airs A. Schaeren 2, Miss Edna Fergnsson 3. The competitions for next month will bo tho best bloom in the garden and apple pi© with short pastry.
