IMPENDING ELECTION. LIST OF NOMINATIONS. The nominations for the. school committees in the city for the next two years closed last evening. An election will be necessary at all the schools except Ilokowhitu, Central, and West Fad, where the nominations do not exceed the number rcqibred. At a meeting of the College Street Committee last evening, Mr H. G. Mills presided. The. headmaster (Mr N. H. Tunnieliff) reported that for the period ending April 5, ten pupils were admitted and thirteen withdrawn so that the roll now stands at 522. This total is t»n in excess of last year’s roll for the same period. The school should he able fo hold its grade with a fair margin of safety. Following the death of the late Prime Minister. Mr Tunnicliff stated, he addressed the school on the life and work of Mr Savage. A letter had been received from the Wanganui Education Board authorising him to refuse admissions to those classes which were already overcrowded. So far c;dy one pupil had been refused admission. The environment certificate has again been endorsed by the Wanganui Education Board for the year 1939. At the conclusion of the business, Mr Mills, as chairman of the committee, thanked the members for the way in which they had co-operated with him during his term of office over the last two years. He also thanked the members of the school staff for their close co-operation and support. Replying on behalf of the members of the staff, Mr Tunnicliff thanked the representatives of the householders for the capable manner in which they had carried out their duties for the benefit of the school. Mr Tunnicliff also expressed his desire for the thanks of the school staff to he conveyed to the members of the ladies’ committee for the way in which they also had carried out their duties. IIOKOWHJTU SCHOOL. A mooting of the Hokowhitn School Committee was held last evening, Mr H. W. Cox being in the chair. Also present were Messrs A. W. Green, G. A. Melville, D. Rickard, L. D. H. Robertson. S. H. liarrod, H. Anderson njid P. E Crowther (secretary). Miss S. Woodfield. a supernumerary teacher, tendered her resignation as she has accepted another position. The Wanganui Education Board advised that the environment certificate for 1939 had been endorsed. The Mayor (Mr A E. Mansford) is to he thanked for the arrangements ho made for the children’s trip to the Centennial Exhibition. The secretary was congratulated on the way he had kept the hooks, and Mr Harrod was thanked for his services on the committee as he is not seeking re-election. The headmaster (Mr A. H. McLean) reported that the roll number was now 276 and the attendance had been fairly stationary since the opening of the term. Tho frequent breaks in flic school year had interfered with the progress of the pupils.
