LAWN TENNIS.
NORTHERN; CLUB Tho final of the men's singles championships at Northern Club was played on Saturday between V. Hobin and I). McMurray. In the first set Hobin led 3 1 and 4—2, hut McMurray evened the score at 4 all, Hobin taking tho set 6—4. Games were even right through the second set to 5 all; then McMurray took the next two for the set 7—5. The third saw Hobin excel in long steady driving, forcing his opponent into errors and taking the set 6—o without any game reaching deuce. The final of the boys’ singles championship for the Stuart Cup was between Gordon Wilson and JackPizzey. The former won 6—5. I—6, 7—5. MATCH WITH DANNEVIRKE. A team from t'ic Dannevirko Club visited Palmerston North at the weekend and played a friendly match on the Northern Club’s courts. The iocu'l players with greater grass court experience proved too strong for the visitors and won by 17 matches to 6, one match being unfinished.
