CENTENNIAL TREE PLANTING. Further support for the Young Farmers’ Chib’s Centennial tree planting scheme was forthcoming when the matter was discussed at the meeting of the AVoodville Borough Council. Introducing the subject the town clerk (Air D. lveay) said that a representative of the club (Air Alurray) had approached him with a view to ascertaining what areas in the borough might he available for tree planting. Tlie section at the rear of the dental clinic had been mentioned as suitable. The Alayor (Mr R. R. Johnston) said he had advised Air Alurray that ho thought the council would he pleased to have trees planted on the section mentioned by the clerk. Cr A. H. Hustwick said that before a decision was reached he would like to have the opportunity of putting forward some suggestions that might prove helpful. The Mayor moved that the matter of tree planting on the borough property behind the dental clinic he loft to the reserves committee and Cr Hustwick. The motion was seconded by Cr A. Olsson and carried. In reply to Cr C. Forbes, the Alayor said there was no question of handing over the reserve to the A’ouug Farmers’ Club. The section would remain the property of the council. Cr Hustwick said that, with an eye to the future finances and as a means of beautification, he thought that some consideration should be given to the planting of trees on all the available borough sections. Ho did not suggest that trees should be planted right- in the town, but pointed out that there were many sections not far out which it would be -to their advantage to have planted.'The Mayor said that tlie council could not be expected to plant trees on sections from which rent was being derived. However, one section which should. bo planted was the one near the rubbish tip. It was eventually left to tlie reserves committee to bring down a general report on the question. KUMEROA DOG TRIALS.
