Mr J. C. Richardson, a former De-puty-Mayor of Wanganui, died yesterday, aged 81 years. Colonel J. H. 'Whyte, D. 5.0., D.C.M., has been gazetted honorary colonel of the Manawatu Mounted Rifles. The deatli has occurred of Mr Stanley C. Manhire, head of the Trade and Indent Department of New Zealand House, London. Mr 11. E. Price, a member of the Waterside Control Commission, and formerly controller of the Auckland waterfront, is expected to arrive at Wellington to-morrow to take up his new duties. Prior to his departure for Petone, Mr T. L. Craigic, manager of the Kosy Theatre, was met hv the staff and made the recipient of a presentation. Mr Craigic has been with Palmerston North Amusements, Limited, for the past five years. A Gazette notice states that Major 15. A. Norman, the Manawatu Mounted Rifles, relinquishes command of the regiment and is transferred to the Reserve of Officers. Lieutenant (temporary captain) G. S. Peron is appointed to command the regiment temporarily, and is granted the acting rank of major. Lieutenant E. R. Brelmer, a dental officer at Trenthani Military Camp, has been appointed a dental officer to the Maori Battalion at Palmerston North, according to the Gazette. The following have been appointed secondlieutenants in the Maori Battalion: Messrs G A. Kuril. G. A. Wiremu, 11. M.’ McDonald. H. K. Ngata, G. R. Bennett. T. Rangi. T. Manahi, K. A. Keiha, A. G. Ormond. W. Porter. Mr R. Self, who has been an officer of the Valuation Department in Wellington for some years, has been transferred to Palmerston North. He was met hv the Valuer General and staff recently, and a presentation of a leather suitcase and carryall, suitably inscribed, was made by the ValuerGeneral on behalf of the staff. The occasion was also taken to make a presentation of a fountain pen to Mr J. L. Turner, who has also been transferred to Palmerston North as assistant-valuer to Mr Sell.
