PATRIOTIC COMMITTEE

APPLICATION FOR WOOL. The Patriotic Committee (Zone D) met in the Municipal Chambers on Thursday, the Alayor (Air A. E. Alansford) presiding. Also present were Messrs C. V. Day, (Emergency Committee), AI. E. Perreau and Captain J. R. Aliddleton (Foxton), S. .G. Northey (R.S.A.), G. A. Eliott (Y.M.C.A.) and J. R, Hardie (secretary). Air Perreau suggested that the secretaries of patriotic committees be allowed to attend meetings in order to provide for more efficient organisation. Mr Alansford said that he saw no objection to the proposal provided the meetings did not become too unwieldy. A resolution approving of the proposal was carried, and Mr Alansford extended a welcome to Captain Middleton, secretary of the fox ton committee, and Air Eliott, representing the Y.M.C.A. The chairman’s action in granting permission for ail orchestral concert organised by Miss Aloffntt to be held for patriotic purposes this month was endorsed. - Air Alansford stated that £OB had been raised from the concert organised by the combined Alanawatu-Southern Hawke’s Bay Alaori Committee. and this amount had been forwarded to the provincial fund. Air Alansford remarked that jerseys and shorts had been supplied at Ohakea and when Mr Day asked whether'the same had been done at the Alaori camp, he replied that this had not vet been accomplished, but they had achieved a precedent. It was decided to make .application to the Provincial Council for wool lor scarves:

Captain Aliddleton stated that in Foxton it was impossible to obtain sufficient wool for women knitters, yet in "Wellington be was told they had more than enough for their requirements. Air Alansford explained that the wool was allocated on a population basis, to which Captain Aliddleton replied that that might be the position in theory, but it was not so in practice. The Wellington Council ldvised that the New Zealand Wool Council contemplated sending its fashion parade at the Exhibition around the provinces after the close of the Exhibition with a view to raising funds for patriotic purposes.—lt was decided to apply for the parade to visit Palmerston” North. suggesting ■’hit the Opera House bo the venue.
