WOMEN’S INSTITUTE. (From Our Own Correspondent.) APITL April 12. A meeting of the executive of the Women's Institute was held on . Wednesday evening at tho homo of Mrs W. Duncan. . Also present were Mesdames C. M. Stanley (president), I>. McXicol (lion, secretary), W. llogan (lion, treasurer), A. W. Houseman, J. Malone, and A. K. Prujcan, who was co-opted to the committee to replace r Miss Stanley, who is away for an indefinite - I period. Apologies for absence were received 5 from Mccdamcs Watkins, Misses Strahan 3 and B. Clnuicher. Arrangements for the , dance were discussed, and six committee . members olfered to provide sandwiches. ! Further details will he finally decided at i the next monthly meeting. 'Those olfering , their help at the Anzac tea were Ales- , dames Bensoman, Prujcan, Stanley, Hogan and Malone. The remits for tho conference . wore fully discussed. Mrs Duncan served ! supper, and was thanked for her hospitality. WOMEN’S DIVISION. I There was a largo attendance on Tuen--1 day afternoon for the annual meeting of ■ the local branch of the W.D.F.U. Mrs L. : J. Dodson presided. Mrs J. B. Pettigrew 1 was welcomed as a new member. A tribute ■ to tho mimicry of tho late Prime Minister ’ and a motion of sympathy with Airs M. ‘ E. A. Martin in her recent bereavement ' was carried. Mrs Nix voiced the appreeia- ’ lion of mem hors for the president's work and interest in the branch. Tho home ’ science report was given by Mrs J. H. Cowan. The housekeeping secretary (Mrs IT. C. Mclntyre) reported that seven housekeepers had been employed in the district • during the year. Tho competition steward (Miss Hodson) alr-o gave her report. The ' lion, secretary and treasurer (Miss Patcr- [ son) pmsented the balance-sheet, which : showed a satisfactory position. The presi- ! dent’s report stated that the year had been very successful. Willing helpers assisted in 1 serving tea after the Anzac service. Two ’ members wore always on duty at flic soldiers’ fa: uwclls. Many members were con- ■’ tributing to the soldiers’ parcels being 1 sent out by the Women’s Institute. Books had been sent to Public Works camps and 1 donations to Miss Mutlicson for hospital ; cheer. Tho rest home and community chest j had also received generous donations, 't he 1 play-reading circle hud done good work in adding to the interest of the monthly pro--1 gtommes. Delegates had attended all the 1 provincial meetings and tho conference. The branch had co-operated with the ' Women’s Institute for a series of Red Cross ’ lectures given by Dr Bamicoat. The : branch, assisted by the Table Flat Women’s f Institute, had catered for a recent show. - Tho election of officers resulted: President, ‘ Mrs Hodson (re-elected); vice-presidents, ' Mesdames W. McKay, A. R. MeXae, A. ‘ j Viles, and J. D. Kilgctir; hon. secretary- ' treasurer, Miss Paterson (re-electedl; house- ‘ keeping secretary, Mrs H. C. Mclntyre; • advisory member. Sirs J. Mapson; dclc- ■ gates to provincial meetings, Mesdames ' Prujcan, Nix, Mis.-, Hodson and two roni- > initteo members, Mesdames J. 11. Cowan > and S. IT. White; competition steward. Miss ' Hodson; home science combined committee ; representatives, Mesdames Watkins, J. 11. I Cowan, and S. IT. White. The points prize; were presented by Miss Hodson and resulted: Miss Paterson 1, Mrs Mclntyre 2; ' most entries, Mrs J. D. Kilgotir. A sub ■ committee was formed to make arrange- ! incuts for the tea following the Anzac scr- ; vice. Those appointed arc Mesdames A. If. j McXac, MeMiirtrie, T. Nix, D. McNieoi | and S. 11. White. Mrs Hodson was up- ! pointed the delegate to the conference in Wellington. ’Thanks were expressed to the auditor (Air Codd) and to Mrs McMurtrie for a donation of tea and sugar. The hostesses were Mesdames Could and S. 11. White. The competitions were judged by Mesdames N. J. Vilos and If. Pettigrew 3 and resulted: Bloom, Mrs .McXicol 1, Mm t L. Martin 2, Mrs J. IT. White. 4 , i' flic annual meeting of the local R.S.A. . was held this week. Mr W. J. Osborne pro- . sided over a fair attendance. The annual report stated, inter alia, that £3O was cx- ’ pended on relieving necessitous cases. The \ reunion was a ' very successful gathering. - The balance-sheet showed a creditable : position. The election of officers resulted: 1 Patron, Major-General R. Young (ro-cleet- ' edl; president, Mr W. McKenzie; vice-pre-sident, Mr A. Dobson; hon. secretarytreasurer, Mr S. F. Morris; general comimitteo, Messrs Jt. Chevne and G. Homley I (Uruwai). W. A. C.'London and L. G. 'London (Kimbolton), J. Strahan, W. J. I Osborne, C. M. Stanley, A. E. Prujcan and J. R. Stewart; trustees, .Messrs W. H. Watson and W. McKenzie (reappointed); auditor, Mr \V. Hogan; delegate to conference, Mr R. Chevne. It was decided to set up a sub-committee to deal with urgent matters, the personnel being: The president, vice-president, secretary and Mr A. E. Prujcan. Arrangements were made for the Anzac Day service, and it was decided that tho collection be equally divided between tho Blind Institute and the Apiti Association. The Feilding Pipe Band is to be invited, as usual, and the local ministers will take charge of the service. The date of the reunion was fixed. Ifev. L. J. Hodson extended his usual invitation to the returned men lo attend a service in the Presbyterian Church on the last Sunday in the month. SOCIAL AFTERNOON. On Wednesday afternoon ladies of the Anglican Church Guild met at the home of Mrs C. Af. Stanley to bid farewell to Airs 11. L. Osborne, who leaves shortly to take up her residence in Kimbolton. Also present were Rev. F. E. Floury, Alcsdames Floury, S. IT. White, J. 11. Cowan, A. E. Prujcan, S. F. Morris. N. J. Yiles. F Alunro. T. Osborne, A. Tt. AtcNae and Mis.-; S. Prujcan. Apologies for absence were received from Airs At. E. A. Martin. Songs were contributed by Airs AJorris. Air C. Af. Stanley, Atesdames IT. L. Osborne and T. Osborne. A competition was won by Mrs Vilcs. Mrs Stanley expressed the regret, of those present at the impending departure of Airs Osborne from Apiti. Al- j though she was not leaving the parish, her 1 immediate assistance in all the _ activities of St. Luke’s Church would be missed. Her generous help had always been much appredated and she had been for some time ; organisle at the church. It was hoped, however, that she woulrl sometimes he able to visit her old friends in Apiti. Air Floury endorsed Airs Stanley’s words and on behalf of tho ladies present asked Airs Osborne to accept a crystal vase as a token of appreciation. Mrs Osborne expressed the hope that her Apiti friends would often visit her in her new home. NOTES. St:. Luke’s Anglican Church held their harvest festival last Sunday. A very bounteous contribution of fruit and vegetables from church members, together with many lovclv flowers and greenery decorated the church. Rev. F. E. Floury took tho service and Mr R. O. J. Alurtin read the Lesson*. Airs 11. L. Osborne was at the organ. Aliss Strahan is visiting Plimmerton. Mrs Watkins has returned from Auckland.
