Ai flic recent liirlliday party of (lie W.D.F.U. Mrs F. Cook presided. Airs AV. F. Field, president of the Palmerston North branch and Dominion advisory board member, extended congratulations to the branch. Mrs 11. J. McLouvey, president of the Oliau branch and Manawatu provincial president, blew .out the candles on tho cake. Shannon, sho said was the third oldest branch. Mrs Cook presented Mrs Field and Mrs McLeavey with bouquets. Mrs A. M. Colquhoun, president of the Levin branch, ex, ressed birthday wishes and Mrs F. 13. Jennings, who was provincial secretary for some time, on behalf of that body, wished Shannon many happy returns and with n representative of each branch present, assisted in cutting the cake. Mrs C. Guerin, a foundation member, ofliciated for the Shannon branch. Competitions were won by Mcsdames N. Macaulay, F. Bowe, Loo. Carter and If. G. Long Ward, and by Mrs Bowe. Items were given by Miss Betty Best, Mrs S. W. Barber. Miss Dorothy Best and incidental music by Airs T. Aloynilian. The visitors were Mcsdames It. B. Robertson, J. C. Riddle, Mesdatnes Field and Jennings and Aliss Field (all from Palmerston North), Mesdantes 11. Lancaster, E. Nyo, A. M. Colquhoun, R. A. AlcDonald (Levin), Alesdames W. Benning, 11. J. McLeavey, C. Saint, 11. Saint (Oliau). At (lie opening of the Mangaore Golf Club there were present visitors from the Buckley and O'.aki Golf Clubs. Air W. Clayton, president of the club, thanked Mr J. Kilmistcr for his courtesy in permitting the club to use his property, and for assisting the club in every possible way. Thanks were also extended to Mr Iv. Mitchell for the loan of implements, also Messrs 11. Murray (secretary) and J. Crawford (greenkeeper). Air Clayton stated that, as this was the club’s third birthday, he lind ■ intended celebrating the occasion with a birthday cake but had decided that the money might be put to a better use. Thereupon, to the accompaniment of hearty applause, lie handed the secretary a pound note which money was to he applied to patriotic purposes in any manner the club thought fit. This heads a subscription list now in charge lof tho secretary. Tho president called upon Miss A. Clayton to open the season by driving the first ball. The mixed foursomes were won by Miss J. Park und C. Singleton. The election of officers at the annual meeting of' the Miniature Rifle Club resulted as follows: —Patron, Mr C. Guerin: president. Air J. Hennessey; vice-presidents, Messrs E. Perry, V. J. Simpson, and W. Clough; lion, secretary, Mr I. Ilommingson; treasurer, Air 0. Tippler; club captain, Air J. Lucinsky; vice-captain, Air R. AlclCenzie: range officers, Messrs 11. Tippler and J, Reid; coach, Air A. F. Birss; target markers, Alessrs A. Smith and 11. Curran; ammunition officers. Messrs A. Birss, junr., I ana A. Third. The president and Air V, J. Simpson were elected trustees.
