FARM PRODUCTION.
MASSEY COLLEGE RETURNS. It was reported to a meeting ot the Ma&scy Col.ege Board of Governors, yesterday, that the college herd production returns, with the 1939 figures in brackets, wore as follow: —January: Cows in milk, 115 (108); lb of fat, 3776 ( 3568). February: Cows in milk, 111 (101); lb of fat, 3365 (2769). Herd-testing returns were as tollow: — February: Cows tested, 110 (102); average 30-day butterfat, 32.51 b. (29.081 b.). March : Cows tested, 105 (88); average 30-day tat, 31.851 b (26.50:b). 'The wool icturns were as follow: Net weight, 32,0511 b (30.566); average gross price, 12.357 d (9.784 d); averago net price, 11.853 d (8.595 d); less retention 5 p.c., .618 d ( —); net price for 1939-40, 11.235 d. . , 'The farm report stated that the period under review, particularly the first half of it, had been characterised by a heavy rainfall and a very strong growth of soft feed. Conditions had suited the dairy farm. On the other hand, the kind of feed and the lack of sunshine had made it a difficult autumn for hoggets and for fattening tailend lambs and cull ewes. The weather had suited root crops.
