APPEAL FOR MEN
FROM GENERAL FREYBERG. “NOT LOOK IN VAIN.” Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, April 11. The following appeal for more men for overseas service was despatched to New Zealand by MajorGeneral Freyberg and read to the National Recruiting Council meeting to-day:— “I make this appeal to the men of New Zealand convinced as I am of the justice of our cause and the urgency of our need. Germany aims at world domination and the ultimate destruction of the British Empire. So long as she remains undefeated there can be no peace. “Our arrival to join the great and increasing army in the Middle East had a far-reaching effect upon both foe and friend. When the time comes to take the field I am confident no matter how great may be the dangers or hardships that New Zealanders, like their predecessors, will acquit themselves with valour and determination. “Meanwhile, those of you who are still enjoying your beautiful country and its liberty cannot let so small a force as this fight the battles which will decide your future destiny. I urge all who are young and fit enough to bear their share to join us without delay. We look to you. We shall not look in vain.”
