MEN IN UNIFORM.

JURISDICTION OF COURTS. MELBOURNE, April 10. Saying that the Judge had abused the discretion of the Court, the Chief Justice (Sir Frederick Mann) ruled in the Supreme Court to-day that there was no obstacle in common law or statute law to a man being tried in the uniform of a soldier. Ho granted bail to a prisoner from tho A.I.F. who had been refused bail by Judge Foster. In the general sessions yesterday it was explained that the soldier could not get a civilian suit and Judge Foster adjourned the case, refusing bail. The Chief Justice’s ruling arouses wide interest as several Judges and Magistrates have declined to deal with men in uniform.
