MASSEY COLLEGE. The annual athletic clinmpionships of Massey Agricultural College were held at the Sportsground, on Wednesday, in unfavourable weather. The ground was soft after the overnigut rain, but despite this Stewart, the Manawatu representative Rugby player, won the lOOvds race in the good time of 11 1-5 sec. In the mile championship Dunlop broke the college record for the distance, and he went close to setting up a record for the half-mile. Under morefavourable conditions Lawry might have added to the record held by him of 40ft Sin for the hop, step and jump. He passed the 401 t mark. Results were: — Championship events.—loo yards: Stewart 1, Ormond 2, Bowler 3; time, 11 l-ssce. 220 yards: Ormond 1, Lawry 2, Massey 3; time, 29scc. 440 yards: Lawry 1, Lane 2, McCullough 3; time, 57 4-ssee. 880 yards: Dunlop 1, Johns 2, Price 3; time, 2min 10 2-s;cc. Mile; Dunlop 1, Johns 2, Allen 3: time, 4min 54 4-sscc. The previous record was 4min 57 4-ssec, set up by Lawry in 1939. 120 yards hurdles; Stewart 1, Lane 2, McLaren 3; time, 20 2-ssee. High jump: Dunlop 1, McLaren 2, Ormond 3; height, 4ft lOin. Long jump: Lawry 1, MeMuir 2, Bowler 3; distance, 17ft llin. Hop, step and jump: Lawry 1, MeMuir 2. Stewart 3; distance, 40ft lin. Shot putt: McLaren 1, Stewart 2. Ormond 3; distancp, 30ft 6in. Throwing the discus: Bowler 1, Boles 2, McLaren 3; distance, 79ft 2in. Throwing the javelin: McLaren 1. Bowler 2. Wildman’ 3; distance, 113 ft lljin. Inter-faculty relay: Degree (Lane, Lawrv, Stewart,Dunlop)' 1, Diploma (McCullough. Tutaki, Ormond, Craven) 2.
