SKAGERRAK FORCED
BRITISH NAVAL ACHIEVEMENT BEST TRADITIONS MAINTAINED (From Davcntry.) The British Navy has struck back hard and fast at the Germans following the invasion of Denmark and Norway. In a battle lasting all day the British Navy has forced the Skagerrak, the 80-mile wide arm of the North Sea between Denmark and Norway. One force of the service is fighting the German warships off Gotenborg (Sweden) and another is steaming northward toward Oslo. Six Nazi warships and two transports are reported to have been sunk in the Skagerrak area. One of these fell to a Norwegian warship. While one Nazi destroyer was sunk on the Norwegian coast, four other enemy cruisers met their fate off Gotenborg, 80 miles away. Some of the German vessels have entered Swedish territorial waters where they have been met by the Swedish defence authorities. -
