PLEAS OF GUILTY

FORMER COMPANY MANAGER. SEVEN THEFT CHARGES. REMANDED FOR SENTENCE. Pleas of guilty to seven charges involving the theft of money totalling £2900 over a period of nearly four years were entered by Godfrey Halse, aged 46, formerly a company manager, of Palmerston 'North, when he appeared before His Honour Sir John Reed in the Supreme Court to-day. Accused was charged that, by fraudulently converting to his own use securities or money given him for investment, he stole, on July 14, 1936, £IOO, the property of Arthur Shelton; that on July 28, 1936, he stole £IOO, the property of Arthur Shelton; that on November 21, 1933, he stole £3OO, the property of Henry George Tucker; that on October 31, 1935, he stole £I3OO, the property of Mrs Effie Scott Hamilton; that between August 13, 1935, and April 12, 1936, he stole £IOO, the property of Mrs Hamilton that on May 21, 1935, he stole £3OO, the property of Grace Berry; that May 4, 1934, he stole £7OO, the property of Clement S. Lawson. His Honour intimated that accused would be remanded for sentence later in the session. Mr M. H. Oram appeared for accused.
