RAILWAY DEVIATION.
REJECTION OF SCHEME. DISPLEASURE AT WANGANUI. Per Press Association. WANGANUI, Jan. 31. Dissatisfaction with the attitude of the Minister of Railways (Hon. D. G. Sullivan) in turning down the coastal railway deviation advocated by Mr W,. Draffin without advancing any reasons for this decision, or giving a report on the proposal, was voiced at to-night’s meeting of the executive of the Wanganui Tourist and Development League, when a motion was passed that the Minister be asked for a detailed report. The president .(Mr Gibson Hughes) said that, out of courtesy, the Minister should have supplied the league with a report. Mr Draffin said the people of the Taranaki district were entitled to an explanation. The scheme was not that of a layman, but was backed by sound engineering advice.
