MAKINO.
(From Oui Own Correspondent.) MAKINO, Jan.’ 31. A wedding of considerable interest took place at St Paul’s Presbyterian Church on Wednesday evening, January 19, when Alice, second daughter of Mr and Airs I. Marshall, Stanway, was united in bonds of matrimony with Douglas son of Air and Mrs Bowater, of Coiyton. Rev. Mr Dixon, Fcilding, officiated at tho ceremony, Air A. E. Alatheson being at the organ. Large bowls of hydrangeas and dahlias decorated the church, while bowls of palest pink decorated the pews. Tho bride, who was given away by her father, looked charming in a graceful classically-cut gown of magnolia satin. The softly-draped bodice was ruclied from the V-shaped neck in front, swept into a long fan-shaped train beautifully appliqued with arum lilies. The sleeves were long and tight-fitting, finishing in deep points over the hands. Falling from a halo of palest pink orange blossom and golden leaves, tho long tulle veil, also of magnolia shade, formed a second train. Shoos of magnolia satin completed a handsome ensemble. A beautiful bouquet of pale pink polyanthus, roses, tiny gold berries and soft green foliage, and streamers of gold lame ribbon, was also carried, forming a dainty finish to the gown. Tho bride was attended by her sistei, Aliss Ruth Alarshall, as chief bridesmaid, 'and Miss Alargaret- Alason, Kahariwi, as bridesmaid. Their frocks were fashioned alike of briar rose pink laee over pink satin, the tighlly-fitting sleeves trimmed with narrow bands of satin, while small satin buttons trimmed the back from neck to waistline. The very full skirts were gracefully flared and also trimmed with narrow hands of satin. Stitched satin belts defined the high waistline. Halos of pink forget-me-nots, -yith gold leaves and gold kid sandals, completed a pretty colour Bchemo of pink and gold. Bouquets of polyanthus roses and shaded pink carnations, with berries toned exquisitely with the frocks. The bridegroom was attended by his brother, Air T. Bowater, as best man, while Air H Nairn (Alakino) carried out the duties of groomsman. As the bride left the church eho was' presented with a lucky horseshoe by little Barbara Simpson, Following the ceremony Mr and Mrs Alarshall entertained a large number of guests at a reception. Miss H. Hoeken, of Coiyton, had iced the. cake. Mrs Alarshall received her guests in a smart black tailored costume, worn with ivory blouse. Her hat was a black tailored straw relieved with ivory, while her bouquet was of dark red carnations. Miss F. Marshall, the ljride’s sister, wore pink silk linen with conventional design of deeper pink and a pink straw hat. Airs Ross, aunt of the bride (Wellington), was in a navy ensemble, trimmed with fawn, and navy hat. Afrs T. Bowater had chosen a cream and apricot floral crepe wifn a deep cream hat. Mrs Liddal, sister of the bridegroom, wore a brown floral ensemble; Aliss Grice (New Plymouth) wearing a floral frock in tones of canary, black and white, black coat, hat and accessories. Later, when Air and Mrs D. Bowater left on their honeymoon, tho bride’s travelling ensemble was a smart nigger brown cos-.
fume worn with a primrose and brown striped blouse, tailored . brown straw hat. and accessories. The bridegroom’s gilt to the bride was a cheque, and to the ’maids a toilet sot and bedroom clock respectively. All the bouquets were the artistic work of the bride’s cousin, Miss M. Lucas, of Rewa. Mr and Mrs Bowater’s future home will be at Makino. Mrs P. H. Roussell, of Auckland, who has been staying with Mrs J. W. Nairn, “Ridgelands,” has returned home. Friends of Mr and Mrs McDonald will be pleased to learn that their little daughter, Flora, who has been an inmate of the Palmerston North Public Hospital, has returned home. Mr and Mrs Douglas Bowater, who have been on holiday at Auckland, have now returned home. After visiting relatives at Makino, Mr A. Pattlo has now returned to his home at Khnndallah. Miss Ethel Younger, “Cinder Hill,” who has been staying at Auckland, has now returned home. After spending the school vacation with Mrs W. P. Bickers, Miss A. McKay and Mr 0. McKay have returned to Tauranga. Staying with Mrs W. Bickers is her mother, Mrs Russell, of New Plymouth.. _ Mrs T. Shalders is on holiday in Napier. Miss A. Nairn, Khandallah, is staying with Mrs C. E. Nairn, Mangaone Road. Mrs D. L. Younger lit spending a holiday at Paraparaumu. Mrs P. Petersen and Miss Vera Petersen are on holiday in Napier.
