WEDDING. (From Our Own Correspondent.) APITI, Jan. 31. A wedding of much local interest was solemnised at the Pitt Street Methodist Church, Auckland, on January 12. The bride was Annie llutb, youngest daughter of the late Mr and Mrs J, Cowley, of Albany, Auckland, and the bridegroom. Alfred Robert Digby, of Apiti, youngest .son of the late Mr and Mrs W. Digby, of lialcombe. The officiating minister was Rev. W. T. Lliglit. The bride, who entered the church escorted by her brother, Mr T. J. Cowley, wore a graceful model frock of Wallace blue georgette, ornamented with dainty smocking. Hie neckline was finished with a spray of blue bowers. A becoming bat of fine navy chip, with a blue floral spray to lone,, was worn. A bouquet of delicate pink roses, carnations and sweet peas completed a pleasing toilette; The bride was attended by her niece, Miss Thelma Sutcliffe, of East Tamaki, who wore a frock of dusky pink georgette, cut with a high neckline and trimmed with gauging and a navy halo hat finished with tiny pink rosebuds. She carried a bouquet of shaded blue cornflowers, delphiniums and hydrangea. The bridegroom was supported by bis nephew, Mr Herbert Digby, of Apiti. A small reception was afterwards held, when about 50 guests foregathered. Mrs G W. Sutcliffo (sister of the bride) received, wearing a smart frock of navy floral silk with coat to match, and navy straw hat trimmed with a floral spray. She carried flowers to tone. Later the happy couple left by car for New Plymouth. _ Their home is at Table Flat, near Apiti. TABLE FLAT. Tho settlers of the district last week tendered a welcome to Mr and Mrs A. R.
Digby at their home. Dancing and friendly conversation passed the time. Just before supper was served, Mr W. T. Pratt presented Mr and Mrs Digby with a tea service and a pair of crystal dishes, on behalf of friends present. Mr A. E. Prujean, of Apiti, spoke on behalf of tlie returned soldiers and made the presentation of a sot of onnniel saucepans. Mr Digby thanked all for their kind words and gifts. Supper was served by the Table Elat ladies. VALLEY ROAD PICNIC.
The settlers of Oroua Valley held their annual picnic last week. Through the generosity of Mr and Mrs N. U. Jensen and family this event is always held on their attractive property. Visitors wander through the beautiful grounds, and sports and games are enjoyed on a nearby shady paddock. The committee led by Mr Ron. Schmidt (president) and Messrs P. G. Thevenard and W. A. S. London (secretaries), looked after the welfare of a large attendance of settlers and friends from miles round. Tlie ladies’ committee catered for over 120 guests at lunch, whilst well over 200 enjoyed afternoon tea beneath the lovely old trees. Record entries were received for all events and the high jump and pole vault were keenly contested. The prizes wore presented by Mr J. McDonald (manager of the Cheltenham Dairy Coy.), who thanked all for their attendance and expressed the thanks of the committee for the willing co-operation always given. Thanks (carried by acclamation) were also tendered Mr and Mrs N. O. Jensen for the use of their grounds. Following, Mr P. G. Thevenard presented Mrs A. Robinson (formerly Miss Eileen Schmidt) with a case of teaspoons in recognition of her long association with the Oroua Valley Road settlers’ picnic. Martin 1, Albert Smith 2. Following the picnic a dance was held at tho home of Mr and Mrs Jensen. The large diningroom was filled to capacity. Music was played by Mrs R. Knox, Mr and Mrs D. Benge, Miss D. London, Mrs W. Mcnzie and Mr F. Waugh, junr. Winners'of the Monte Carlo, Mr and Mrs D. Jlenge; lucky Gay Gordons, Miss I aukh a user and Mr G. Murdock; lucky spot, Miss I. Petersen and Mr G. Doughty. At tho close, Mr Thevenard proposed a vote of thanks to Mr and Mrs Jensen, which was carried with acclamation. PERSONAL. Mrs ,T. B. Gerrand, of Palmerston North, is.the guest of Mrs Hodson, at the Manse. Mr and Mrs Gubbins returned at the week-end to their home at Wainui Beach, near Gisborne, travelling via Napier. Mr and Mrs J. R. Osliorne have returned home froVn their holiday in North .Auckland. Mr and Mrs A. W. Bird are back from Masterton.
