MANAWATU ELECTORATE.
lAIPORTING OF AVORKERS. WARNING BY HON. J. G. COBBE. “AA T e have been informed that just before the election a tremendous amount of work will start —the railway deviation and the Ohakea aerodrome,” stated Hon. J. G. Cobbe, M.P., when speaking at the garden party held near Rongotea, on Saturday afternoon, by supporters of the National Party. _ , Urging the district to organise and take a very real interest in politics, Mr Cobbe added that it was estimated that 1500 or 2000 men would be brought into the area for this work. A most desperate effort would be made bv Labour to retain the country seats, because if the Labour candidates for those were returned, Labour would take it as a mandate for the putting into operation of Socialism. “Electorates returning country members of the Labour Party are simply making a whip fpr their own backs,” added Air Cobbe. “Tfyey are returning men who are not free agents. A man who is under union contro’ must vote as the union directs .even though that vote may be prejudicial to the interests of his constituents. “Such a mar. cannot he a true country representative. New Zealand is looking to the country electorates to maintain national freedom and whatever property, be it big or little, that belongs to the people.’ Air Cobbe stated that the Labour Party were very anxious to hold the Manawatu seat, that they were bringing people into the electorate, and that if the National Party supporters did not organise, Labour would succeed.
