WELLINGTON STOCK EXCHANGE.
A QUIET WEEK. The Wellington Stock Exchange was again very quiet last week, and the turnover since the Exchange opened this year after the Christmas vacation has been very restricted. The ruling feeling in the ma.rket is one of wait and see, for no favourable signs have yet come from London or New York, while the Australian markets also have been very quiet. Throughout the week there was a strong demand for Government stocks, but with sellers holding off the market, little business was done. Bank shares were not in demand, and New Zealand shares have continued to weaken. Gas company shares were steady, while most New Zealand industrial issues also held their own. Australian industrial shares, however, have been quiet, while metal shares, due to the continued fall in prices, were generally easier. SATURDAY’S QUOTATIONS.
