FIRE NEAR LEVIN
DAIRY FACTORY DAMAGED. ACTIVITIES HELD UP. Per Press Association. LEVIN, Jan. 29. A serious fire at Kuku, this morning, resulted in the cheese manufacturing department of the Kuku Co-op. Dairy Company, Ltd., being destroyed. It was a wooden building at the rear of the new butter making premises, and w r as used for the manufacture of cliecse. At the time between 30 and 40 tons of cheese v'as in storage and all of it was destroyed, together with the plant and equipment. The building destroyed houses the refrigerating and steam pumping plant for both departments, and by its loss the whole of the operations were held up. Arrangements aro being made for a temporary plant. The cause of the fire is believed to be spontaneous combustion iri the cool storage bunker. Details of the insurances are not available.
