COMMENTS OF JUDGES.

HIGH QUALITY PRAISED. GOOD DAIRY CATTLE: The president (Mr A. M. Colquhouri) and his committee proved efficient and hard-working; while the secretary (Mr J. ; A.' Goodwin) left nothing to he desired in the way of general organisation. There were close on 100 entries in the Jersey cattle section and keen competition gave the judge (Mr L. A. Higgins. of Nelson) a difficult task. T 6 a "Standard" reporter afterwards he said the quality throughout was excellent. The two champion animals would, he considered, he difficult to beat at any show. Mr A. 0. Cadwallader, who judged the Friesians, said the Boys' Training' Farm' had produced some wonderful animals. All the entries were of high standard, there being that desirable tendency to breed a low-set cow full of dairy capacity. The winning cow in the four-year class was ; of the real Dutch type. "The younger Ayrshires are the best I have seen at this Show," said the judge of this section (Mr J. Kyle, Aokaute're). The display was a • very creditable one. Improved quality was noted by Mr A. Lancaster (Glen Oroua) in the dairy cattle section, while Mr J. i Slack (Bunnythorpe) said the class ' of Milking Shorthorns exhibited was the best he had seen at Levin for many years. ■ There was only ono exhibitor in the Bed Poll section (the Estate of H. G-. Bryant) and the entries were smaller than usual. The judge (Mr Norman Inder) said that the quality was a big improvement on last year's, but in some cases show condition was lacking. Mr H: Voss, who judged the BomBey sheep, described the champion ram and ewe as being of outstanding type. The ' quality ' throughout ' the section was good. The Southdowns, said Mr L. B. "Wall (Kairanga) were a credit to the district, a growing desire among \ breeders to get length and body being evident.

Considering the dry season, the fat sheep and lambs showed good quality, remarked Air G. Al. Moffitt (Feilding). In some classes, however, there was an inclination to go for the over-fat animal, which was not the best for the freezing industry. Air IV. P. Bickers said the pig classes had produced some excellent entries and the champion Berkshire,' wore almost perfect. Some of the younger pigs in the Tamworth section were lacking in constitution, but the champion Tamworth sow was full of type. The list of awards is as follows: — CHAMPIONSHIPS. HORSES.
