PICNIC AT BALLANCE

PUBLIC SERVICE GATHERING Beautiful weather favoured the annual picnic of the Palmerston North branch of the Public Service Association, which was held on Thursday at Ballance. There was a large attendance, which was representative of all branches of the departments represented in this district. A number travelled by train and others by motor-car, two carriages being specially attached to a train which left the passengers' at the Gorge, close to the picnic ground.

Races and scrambles for sweets were held for the children, and although the river was swoollen and discoloured on account of the recent rain, swimming was indulged in. At the conclusion of the sports programme Mr B. Dickson (Public Trust officer), on behalf of those attending, expressed warm appreciation to the committee for their efforts in arranging such an enjoyable gathering. The speaker also expressed the hope that next year’s picnic would draw an even larger attendance. Mr Dickson then proceeded with the presentation of trophies.
