MINISTER’S TOUR

IN THAMES DISTRICT. Per Press Association. TE AROHA, Jan. 28. The Minister of Public Works, Hon. R. Bemple, arrived at Te Aroha from Paeroa last evening and attended the Caledonian Ball. This morning he met deputations from the Piako County Council, Thames A f alley Drainage Board, and the Chamber of Commerce. The Drainage Board asked for a £3 to £1 subsidy to carry out further work of clearing willows in the Waitoa River. The Minister said that full consideration would be given to the representations and a report obtained. The county council put forward a number of requests, the Minister replying that full consideration would be given to them, as the Government’s aim was to assist primary producers. The Minister was tendered a dinner hv the borough and county council and the drainage board, and later left to inspect the district and river works.
