NEW AWARD.
WORKERS IN STORES. Per Press Associttion. AUCKLAND, Jan. 28. A new award lias been issued by the Arbitration Court relating to tbe Northern, Taranaki, Wellington, Marlborough, Nelson, Otago, and Southland wool, grain, hide, and manure store employees. The award provides for a 40-hour week consisting of eight hours a day from Monday to Friday, but a worker may be employed for four hours on Saturday morning at ordinary rates of pay. Casual workers are to be paid not less than 2s 5d an hour and permanent bands not less than £4 12s 6d a week, while workers mixing manures or bagging manures by hand shall -receive threepence an hour additional. Idead storemen receive £i a week extra. Workers classing hides and skins, and setting grass seed and grain cleaning machines, and workers sampling seed and grain, are to receive twopence an hour additional. Provision is made for overtime and recognised holidays. Tlie award is made retrospective from January 1 last. Mr Anderson (employers’ representative) dissents on the hours of work and rates of pay, expressing the opinion that there should be a 44hour week spread over five and ahalf days.
