RAPID PROGRESS

AIR SERVICE NEGOTIATIONS

COMMENCEMENT THIS YEAR.

HOPE IN AUSTRALIA

(United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received January 29, 12.5 p.m.

SYDNEY, Jan. 29

Tho Federal Cabinet discussion on tlie negotiations for the establishment of a Tasman air mail service has revealed that the remaining difficulties are rapidly being eliminated, says the Sydney Morning Herald. The .opening date of the service is still uncertain, but Federal officials expect it will be before tho end of the year.

The only outstanding point of difficulty is the desire of tlic New Zealand Government that the service should be operated directly by the Governments. Tho difficulties inherent in direct Government operation, it is expected, will reconcile New Zealand to the view of Australia and Britain, who prefer to leave the operation to a private company.
