Eev. Father C. O’Connor, S.M., lias been appointed Superior of St. Mary’s Novitiate, Highden, Palmer ston North, in succession to Eev. Father J. Kennedy.

The Health Department has notified the Wanganui Education Board of the appointment of Dr Phyllis Moir as schools medical officer in the board’s district.

Mr A. H. Eedmnyne, of Palmerston North, is reading'for the B.A. degree at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, writes a London correspondent. He will afterwards take the medical course.

Mr D. J. Cummings, Commissioner of Police, has been elected a member of the Public Service Superannuation Board, as the representative of the contributors to the fund belonging to the Police Force. A British Official Wireless message announces that Sir' Hubert Winthrop Young, Governor of Northern Ehodesia, has been appointed Governor and Commander-in-Chief of Trinidad and Tobago, succeeding Sir Murcliison Fletcher, who has resigned for health reasons. Mr John Alexander Maybin, Chief Secretary of Nigeria, lias been appointed Governor of Northern Eliodesia.

Mr L. M. Espagne, who has been with Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., for 30 years, and for the past 11 years has been manager of the .'Dannevirke branch, has been advised by the London board of directors that he is to retire on superannuation as from February 1. Prior to going to Dannevirke, Mr Espagne was stationed at Napier, Hastings, Christchurch, and Ashburton.

Hon. W. Nash (Minister of Finance) will leave Wellington to-day for Napier. On Monday he will discuss the question of the repayment of earthquake loans incurred by Hawke’s Bay local bodies with the- local authorities concerned. From Hawke’s Bay the Minister will proceed to the Waikato. On February 7, Mr Nash will meet a gathering of dairy farmers at Hamilton, and the following day he is to attend a similar meeting at Morrinsville. The Minister expects to return to Wellington on February 9,

Mr J. L. Menzies, the new Assistant Trade Commissioner for Australia in New Zealand, and his wife, will' arrive at Wellington on Monday from Sydney. Mr Menzies, w”io. has been attached to the Tourist and Commerce Department at Canberra, is a brother of Hon. Robert Menzies, At-torney-General to the Commonwealth Government. Mr J. Payne, the present Assistant-Commisisoner, who has been acting ns Commissioner since Mr R. H. Nesbitt left New Zealand, is to leave ' New Zealand on February 21, He will probably be retained by the Commerce Department at Canberra for a sliort time before leaving Australia to take up the duties of Assist-ant-Commisisoner for Australia in Egypt.
