AWAHURI INSTITUTE.

ANNUAL PICNIC. The annual picnic of the Awahuri Women’s Institute was held on Wednesday on the property of Mr E. U. Bond, when there was a good attendance of meml>ers and visitors. Although the weather was windy and cold, this did not mar the proceedings, as there was plenty of shelter and everyone was in the picnic spirit. During the afternoon some members of the physical culture and wrestling club gave demonstrations of holds and wrestling. Mr E. 0. Bond (president) explained and demonstrated a few different exercises. The following are the results of the various races:—Girls under 5. June Verrv 1. Beth Stuart 2; under o. Rene Merriett i, Janet WoodrulTe 2; under 12. Jean Goodman 1, DnWoodruffe 2; under 14. Eliza Ward and Dorothv Merriett 1. Norma Cribb and Doreen Woodruffe 2: potato race, under 12, Doreen Woodruffe 1 ; over 12, Eliza "Ward 1 ; consolation race, under 12, Olive Merriett 1 ; over 12. Adrian Baker 1 ; bovs, under 5. Brian Bond 1, lan Bennett 2; under 10, G. Tantrum 1, Trevor Christian 2; over 10, Allan Goodman 1, Gordon Tantrum 2; potato race, Allan Godman 1, D. Christian'2; wheelbarrow race, Ray Oke! and Trevor Christian; single ladies’ r a «b lo Russell 1; married ladies, Mrs A. Goodman 1; married men, A. Stuart 1, H. Havthorne 2; single men, J. Cocker 1, M. Chris- 1 tian 2; potato race, M. Christian 1, J. Cocker 2: treasure hunt, Miss Mat-; Ihews and Mrs Henderson: men, M. Cocker. ’

A very generous lunch and afternoon tea was served, also ice-cream. Each member’s child of seven vears and under received a gift, while all the children received sweets and fancy biscuits. A vote of thanks was passe dto all those who had kindly assisted also to donors of gifts, and to Mr and Mrs Bond for the generous use of their grounds and home.
