MODERN FLEET.
ITALIAN MERCHANT MARINE. LONDON, Jan. 26. The Daily Telegraph’s Rome correspondent says that, according to the newspaper 11 Popolo di Roma, Signor Mussolini will shortly promulgate a decree for the construction of an entirely new mercantile fleet of 2,000,000 tons to be completed in 10 years. The ships will be the fastest and most modern in Europe. They will carry foreign freights and bring foreign currency to Italy, and will also be useful for conversion into auxiliary warships if necessary.
