RAILWAY SERVICE.
REGRADING ANOMALIES. DISCUSSED WITH MINISTERS. (By Telegraph—Special to Standard.) WELLINGTON, Jan. 27. In every branch of the railway service employees have been concerned over the alleged failure of the departmnt to place railwaymen in line with other public servants when the regrading concessions were recently granted. There was even strike talk in Canterbury before the heavy Christmas traffic commenced, though all the men’s organisations discounted this in view of the Government’s promise to receive full representations in the new year. The leader of the four railwaymen s organisations diicussed the regrading anomalies to-day with the Prime Minister (Mr Savage), Minister of Railways (Mr Sullivan) and Minister of Finance (Mr Nash).
