EMPIRE FARMERS.
IMPORTANT CONFERENCE. The draft agenda for the Empire Primary Producers’ Conference, which will be opened in Sydney by the Governor, Lord Wakehurst, on March 28, has been completed, and will be submitted to organisations in England, Scotland, Rhodesia, Canada, and New Zealand for final review. At a meeting of the Australian organising committee of the conference, Mr M. P. Dunlop, M.L.C., who presided, said that the responsibility now rested with Australian producers’ organisations to make the historic conference the success its importance warranted.
The salient points of the agenda are : (1) Review of the agricultural position in Great Britain and the Dominions; (2) consideration of the disposal of surplus primary products for export; (3) development of inter-Dominion trade as the key to Dominion development ; (4) establishment of a liaison and consultative committee of Empire producers to review Empire policy.
“Both in Great Britain and the Dominions strong emphasis' has been laid on the significance of the gathering to Empire agriculture at this important juncture in international affairs,” Mr Dunlop stated at the meeting. “The fact that the Commonwealth Government fully recognised the value of the conference is amply demonstrated by the liberal amount it has allocated towards the expenses of the undertaking. The New South Wales Government has also contributed generously.” ,
