KIWITEA COUNTY.

MEETING OF COUNCIL. The monthly meeting of the Kiwitea County Council was held yesterday, Cr L. T. McLean presiding. Also present were: Crs J. Beard, F. E. Tappin, J. H. Williamson, W. Hair, D. T. Couper, W. G. Clapliain, AY. P. Shaw and J. T. Brown.

The \ r aluation Department advised payment of 75 per cent of subsidy on general rates in respect of the current year, amounting to £ISOO.

The Kairanga County Council forwarded a cheque for £264 19s lid, being the council’s share of the heavy traffic license fees for the quarter. The district engineer, Public AA’orks Department, approved acceptance of the following tenders: Improvements No. 52 Main Highway, and metalling balance of Titirangi Road.

Mr W. Martin wrote drawing the council’s attention to the condition of the unnietalled portion of the Conspicuous Road.—Referred to the overseer (Mr F. H. Eggeis) to attend to.

The treasurer (Mr W. L. Hesseltine) reported t>hat the position in regard to payment of rates as at yesterday’s date was as follows: —General: Levied, £8163 3s 9d; paid. £3884 2s lid; outstanding, £4278 19s lOd. Specials: Leyied, £3IBO 4s 7d; paid, £1335 4s 9d'; thirds, £l4 9s '9d ; outstanding, £IB3O 10s Id. Hospital 1937-38: Levied, £3401 17s 7d; paid, £1603 14s 7d; outstanding, £1798 3s. Arrears (3 years). General, paid, £54 19s Id; outstanding, £2lO 4s 7d ; specials, paid, £l9 19s 4d ; outstanding, £97 0s 7cl; hospital, paid, £2l 15s 7d; outstanding, £76 18s 4d. Mr 'Hesseltine stated that the hank balances as at January 25 were in the following positions: County Fund account, dr £305 8s 7d; employees’ accommodation account, cr £376 15s sd; Kinibolton Cemetery account, cr £l3 9s lOd ; land fund account (No. 2), cr £163 2s Gd ; Rangiwahia Cemetery account, cr £1 12s 8d ; Waituna Cemetery account, ci £b 14s 3d. It was to secede to the Otaki Borough Council’s request that the council refund the heavy traffic license fees in connection with an overcharge. At a special meeting Wednesday was declared as the statutory ' halfholiday for shops and offices in the county. ,
