CHINESE STRIFE
BOMBS ON CANTON. FURTHER INCIDENTS. (United Press Association —By Electric Tel egr a p h. —Copyright.) (Times Cables.) LONDON, Jan. 20. The Times Hong Kong correspondent says the outskirts of Canton . were severely bombed from the air in a search for the new Chinese aeroplanes. Several buildings, including the Italian Consulate, were damaged. Survivors reaching Canton report that Japanese ’planes bombed and machinegunned a motor vessel towing two others carrying passengers in the East River near Namheung. A ghastly scene resulted in a hundred dead. . Japanese gunboats and Chinese ’planes engaged in fierce fighting on the Yangtse-kiang near Wuhu. lhe adjacent hills were tho scene or infantry encounters, th© slopes being strewn with dead.
