MEDLEY OF FASHIONS.
ANCIENT AND MODERN
“The mingling, of an ancient custom and modern dress has produced a curious result at Serajevo, in Bosnia,” said Mrs H. J. Feakes, when she returned to Sydney recently with RearAdmiral Feakes.
“The women in Serajevo still wear the black veil over their faces and, in the case of the smart women they have beautiful frocks from Paris, very modern hats and high-heeled shoes; but their black veils are so thin that their faces can be seen through them. . “When we were at the Wagner festival at Bayreuth, Bavaria, Herr Hitler apeared. I thought he looked very pale and tired. I said so to a German woman nearby, and she replied ‘Do you wonder?’ I met a secretary of Herr Hitler’s, and she described him ns a wonderful man, and she would do anything to help him in his work. I could not understand any more that she said, as our conversation was entirely in German,” continued Mrs Feakes.
In Yugoslavia, Mrs Feakes noticed that most of the men appeared, to sit about in cafes and gossip while the women worked in the fields.
