REMARKABLE ESCAPE.

TRAIN STRIKES CAR, A remarkable escape was experienced by a motorist at the Fitzroy Street level crossing when the New Plymouth express was passing yesterday afternoon. The car, a heavy model, was travelling along Main Street toward the city as the express came down off the Terrace End incline and, just as the engine reached the level crossing, the.car turned to cross the raihyay line toward the Terrace End pit. The front bumper of the car was shorn off by the engine and the train was brought to a stop, the crew going back to see if the incident had been attended with serious consequences. The car was pulled up quickly and later was driven away under its own power. It is understood that the driver was the only occupant of the vehicle.
