MARTON, Jan. 25. The Mayor (Mr F. Purnell) presided over the monthly meeting of the Marton Borough Council last night, when consent was granted to plans submitted by tho Director of Housing of the proposed subdivision of the former saleyards property. A letter was received from the town clerk, Raetihi, with reference to the Fire Brigade dispute, advising that an emphatic protest lias been lodged with the United Fire Brigades’ Association of New Zealand and the Conciliation Commissioner regarding the inclusion of volunteer brigades.—The Mayor was appointed to attend as delegate, with power to act. The treasurer’s report showed that receipts from December 11 to January 24 amounted to £1275 17s 9d, tho principal items of revenue being rates £5Bl 13s 2d, gas, etc., £684 10s, water fees and connections £169 4s, town hall £7B 6s 2d.
