NEWBURY.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) NEWBURY. Jan. 25. After a long spell of hot, dry weather, welcome rain has cornu at last, and overyone is much relieved, especially tho farmers whose feed was getting very short; in fact, several farmers in the near districts have been putting out their winter feed to keep the cows going. As a result of tho very dry weather thci‘o has boon a considerable decreaso in the milk supply. The water supply is also relieved, as tanks wore empty in many homes. Harvesting is just about completed in tho district,., it being an excellent season. Tho holidays will soon be over now, as tho local school will reopen on February 1. Among others who will bo returning home is Mrs Maidens, who _ has been spending her vacation in Dunedin. Mr and Mrs J. Cheatham are spending a holiday at Paraparaumu Beach. Mrs Lionel Holland lias returned home aftor spending a holiday at Waiterere Beach, where she was the guest of her sister, Mrs H. Clark. Mr T. W ood, junr., is on holiday at Now Plymouth. Miss J. Weighton, of Eastbourno, Wellington, who has been visiting Wanganui, left that city by aeroplane last week and is now tho guest of her sister, Mrs N. Wood. Mrs W. Penbcrthy returned home yesterday after a fortnight’s tour of the north. Sh'o was accompanied by her brother and sister-in-law, Mr and Mrs A. Thorn, of Waitotara. Mr and Mrs W. G. Shannon have returned home aftor visiting Wellington. Mr and Mr* E. IV. Collins and Misses V. and P. Collins were also visitors to Wellington for race week. Mr and Mrs W. Wild, who have boon on a visit to Wellington, are returning home this week.
