If you are making cakes for a children’s birthday party, make ordinary blitter sponge and ice as if for fruii cake. The cake can be eaten by the children without any fear of aftereffects.

A sour cask that has held pickles, vinegar, or wine can be sweetened by washing with lime-water, or throwing in hot charcoal. Later fill the cask with water and let it soak. If you are about to renew a ribbon watch-strap, cut the ends of the ribbon diagonally, and it will then be able to slip more easily into the clips. Before stitching the ribbonends into place, straighten them.

If you have malted milk which has hardened in the tin, break out the pieces and either grate them on a nutmeg grater or crush with a rollingpin.

If your woollen jumper lias scorchmarks upon it, they can easily be removed bv- soaking the' marked portions in glycerine. Let them dry, then wash in a lather of warm water and soap. Finally, rinse in warm water.

After having washed a pair of men’s trousers, hang them on the line by the waist and insert wire presses in both the legs whilst they are still wet. The trousers will be quite easy to press when dry. Boil old curtain rings and hooks for a few minutes in a little water with a spoonful of vinegar. Then polish with a dry cloth. To take dressing out of tea-towels, glass-cloths, etc., add a teaspoonful of Epsom salts to a pint of water, soak articles in solution for an hour, then rinse and dry in the sun.
