SYDNEY LABOUR ORGAN.
MR LANG’S PROTECTION.
Received January 2fi 1.10.. p.m. SYDNEY, Jan. 26.
The leader of the State Opposition (Mr J. T. Lang) , has appointed Mr Norman Alphonsus McCauley, receiver and manager of the newspaper, the Labour Daily, to protect his second debenture security in that paper. It is expected that immediate legal action will bo taken by the shareholders to clarify the situation.
A report from Sydney on January 21 said that a sensational development in official Labour circles was the announcement that Mr Lang had given notice to the board of directors of the Labour Daily newspaper of his intention to call up the principal second debenture of £13,764, together with interest amounting to £3400, and, in the event of a default, he intended to appoint the receiver as manager of the newspaper. It was expected that Mr Lang would, in due coursie, quit the Labour movement and that the Labour Daily will fall into the hands of the industrial section composed largely of miners, who for years had contributed largely to the support of the paper.
