BARD CONTEST
NSXT MONTH’S FIXTURE. MEETING OF COMMITTEE. Arrangements for the Dominion brass bands contest, to bo held in Palmerston North next month, were advanced at a meeting of the committee held last evening. The Mayor (Mr A. E. Mansford) presided, and also present were Messrs J. P. McDavitt, J. A. Nash, W. H. Brown, L. I. Plimmer, B. Abraham, C. G. Hayward, F. Lo Cheminant and C. V. Day (secretary). Advice was received from the Gover-nor-General (Lord Galway) that he would be unable to attend the contest as he was due to arrive back from Australia only on the day prior to the contest opening. In connection with the opening day there will be a civic reception and arrangements are being made to hold inter-house sports on that day. For the day of the quickstep competition it was decided to take out an insurance policy for £SOO against rain. Arrangements are to be made for the reservation of seats on the main grandstand. Billeting arrangements were completed and band “fathers” were appointed to look after the interests oi each competing band. It is, expected that there will be eight A grade bands and 13 B grade bands taking part.
