GAOL SENTENCE.

CASE IN THE SOUTH. Per Press OAMARU, Jan. 26. Before Mr H. W. Bundle, S.M., to-day, a Maori, Paani Rewhiti Porete, charged with assaulting David Leonard and Vivian Leonard, at Moeraki on December 29, pleaded guilty. The occurrence took place during the Moeraki Centenary celebrations. According to the evidence accused' mistook Mrs Leonard for another woman and caught her by the throat and threw her to the ground. Her husband intervened and was also assaulted.

Constable Woodley said accused was becoming a menace at Moeraki. Accused was sentenced to 14 days’ imprisonment and ordered to make good the damage to clothing (£2 10s). H© was also admitted to probation for three years.
