Sir Thomas Wilforrl, accompanied by Lndv AVilford, will leave for England on Saturday. A 7 ery Rev. Moqpignor AfacAlnnus and Rev. Fathers Jansen and Herlihy have returned to Palmerston North after attending a retreat in AA 7 ellington. His Honour Sir John Reed will preside over the quarterly session of the Supreme Court which opens in Palmerston Nortli next week. The Leader of the Opposition (Hon. A. Hamilton) arrived in AVellington from the south on Sunday. He left to-day for Hastings, and will return to AVellington on Wednesday. Air AV. N. Norwood, general manager of the Dominion Alotors, Ltd., and Airs Norwood arrived back in New Zealand on Friday last. They were welcomed in Auckland bv Air A\ T . D. Gordon, in company with whom they returned to AVellington. Cr G. Tremaine (chairman of the reserves committee of tho Palmerston North City Council), Air P. Black (city curator) and Air A. AV. Just representing the Horticultural Trades men’s Association,/are attending the annual conference of the National Horticultural Society in Christchurch. Air D. C. Pryor, acting general secretary of the New Zealand Educational Institute, who until a few months ago was on the teaching staff at the Terrace End School, is at present visiting Palmerston North for the North Island conference of institute secretaries. He leaves to-morrow night for Timaru, where the South Island conference is to be held. “The death of the late Air C. Louisson will be very deeply regretted by this club, in common with a wide community of friends and institutions,” states the Palmerston North Rotary Club. “His record of service in the interests of his fellow men constitutes a fine example of practical community work', and fie had entered fully into the life and activities of the club. His regular attendance and genial fellowship were very sincerely appreciated, and will be sadly missed by members.” Advice of his appointment as chief drainage engineer under the Lands and Survey Department at AVellington has been received by Air R. C. Macmorran, chief surveyor and chief drainage engineer at Auckland. Air Alacmorran will also take up the position of Under-Secretary for Lands, replacing Air J. H. O’Donnell, who is to retire on superannuation. Air Alacmorran joined the Lands and Survey Department in AA r ellington ■in 1904 and lie was transferred lo Auckland as assistant surveyor in 1908. Except for a period of service at the Front in the AVar, Arr Alacmorran has been with the department in the Auckland district ever since. In 1911 be was appointed to the land and drainage branch and he became chief drainage engineer in 1927. In 1931 be added to his duties that of chief surveyor for the district.
