RED POLL HEIFERS.
• Messrs J. S. Pike and Son, of New Plymouth, have recently secured two outstanding Red Poll heifers from tho wellknown Ivanhoe stud in Tasmania, through tho pedigree live stock division of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Coy., Ltd. The cattle are at present undergoing quarantine in the Somes Island quarantine station, Wellington, and will be released about the middle of February. Both of tho imported heifers are double A grading and before leaving Tasmania were mated to the imported bull Woodburn Merlin AA by Gresham Mohawk 1389 AA. Ivanhoe Tulip is by Woodburn Wiscboy AA by Whiteaway Wiseman AA (imp.) and the other heifer Melba is out of Chadpara Melonade AA, a prizewinner as a throe-year-old at the Melbourne Royal Show, bred by Dr. Arnold Caddy, of Victoria. Brelders throughout tho Dominion realise the necessity of securing fresh blood and it is expected that in the near future others will purchase high class animals from overseas.
