MAGISTRATE’S COURT.

MISCELLANEOUS CASES. The fortnightly sitting of the Feilding Magistrate’s Court was held today, Mr R. M. Watson, S.M., presiding. Bernard John Matson, labourer, of Feilding, pleaded guilty to a charge of assault on December 31, 1937, and was fined £5. Donald Ernest Lamberton, a labourer, of Feilding, also pleaded guilty to a charge of assault on the same date and was fined £B. “I have really been thinking that I should give Lamberton a term of imprisonment,” His Worship said. “It is his second offence in a case of this nature. However, I will not imprison him, but will fine, him.” F. W. L. Rickard, a motor-ear salesman, of Feilding, was fined l'Os, with costs 10s, for supplying a firearm to a person under 16 years of age. For supplying ammunition for the firearm defendant was ordered to pay Court costs, 10s. “Riding on footpaths by cyclists in Feilding is very prevalent and the practice constitutes a danger to pedestrians and elderly people,” said the Magistrate in dealing with a prosecution. “It is not allowed in other centres and will not be allowed in Feilding,” he added. The Magistrate fined A. F. Macliarper 10s. with Court costs 10s, and I. Mandahl and .R. Wealleans similar amounts. James Allen was fined 10s and costs 10s for riding a cycle at night without a light. On a similar charge Jack Allen was dealt with similarly, as was also H. D. Trevena. Failure to renew his warrant _ol fitness in respect of a motor-vehicle owned by him cost D. S. Moore, of Feilding, £l. with 10s Court costs. Gordon Jefferies, of Colyton Road, Taonui, a dairy farmer, was fined £2, with Gourt costs 10s and witnesses’ expenses 3s, for failing to keep a wages and holiday book in respect of an employee. On another charge of having paid his employee less than the minimum wages payable under the Agricultural Workers Act, defendant was fined £2, with Court costs 15s. A. C. Fowler, of Auckland, charged with a breach of the motor _ vehicle regulations in that he drove his car in a negligent manner, was fined £5, with costs 16s.
