RESCUE EFFORTS FAIL.
BOAT-LOAD OF CHILDREN. LONDON, Jan. 24. The Daily Mail’s Bucharest correspondent says that a motor-boat containing 22' children, aged from seven to nine years, on an excursion accompanied by a headmaster, struck an icefloe in Iron Gates, where the Danube races between towering cliffs. Desperate fathers and mothers leapt into *lie icy water in an attempt ;to savo the children, necessitating , boats putting off. All the parents | were rescued, but of the excursionists the motor-boatman alone survived.
