The most momentous religious development in modern times, directly affecting nearly 32,000,00 Q . people, i™ foreshadowed by the completion of . joint plan for the fusion of the Church of England and the Methodist, Congregational, Baptist, Presbyterian, and Moravian denominations. A draft drawn up by the Archbishop of York, eleven Anglican Bishops and foui leaders of the free churches provides the foundation for a United Church of England- ‘ The plan, which is the outcome ot years of study, provides for the inauguration of an Episcopal Church, composed of Anglican Bishops, who accept the new constitution and a number of Fr~e Church Bishops chosen Tor consecration by their churches. The Archbishop of Canterbury would bo ex-officio chairman of the General AsChurch would he free from the control of the State in respect o faith, worship, morals, discipline and government, while acknowledging, the jurisdiction of tlid Civil Courts in such matters as property endowments.
