MANAWATU ASSOCIATION. G. AND C,. CUP RETAINED. Principal interest in the Manawatu cricket matches on Saturday centred in the challenge by the Feilding Cricket Association for the Goldfinch and Cousins Cup. Manawatu successfully withstood the challenge, putting on 311 for five wickets in reply, to Feilding’s total of 250. In the HorowhenuaManawatu encounter, at Levin, the result was a draw, Manawatu putting on 265 and Horowlienua having 123 runs on for eight wickets at stumps. One of the three senior B matches was concluded in the one day, Combined Services making 324 and then putting City out for 60 and 25. The latter side had only six men. Y.M.C.A. were all out for 58 in the first innings of their match with Kia Toa (whose innings went to 163), while at the close of play Y.M.C.A. had lost two wickets for 19 runs. United scored 110 against Old Boys, the latter’s innings going to 157. In their second innings United have five wickets down for 132. In tlie junior A division Combined Services had first strike against Massey College for 164. College’s first innings producing 149. Old Boys made 191 against the Optimists’ bowling, Optimists then hitting up 166. At stumps Old Boys had 42 runs on for two wickets. Play in the third match saw United run up 143 and then get H. L. Young’s out for 76. United compiled IS9 for four wickets prior to the drawing of stumps. Cook’s beat Y.M.C.A. and United beat Kia Toa in the junior B series.
