AT MT. COOK.

IMPROVED FACILITIES. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Jan. 21. Tourists will benefit considerably from a grant which lias been approved by Cabinet for improved facilities at the Hermitage, Mt. Cook, and the Ball Hut Chalet, situated some distance from the Hermitage at the junction of Caroline and Tasman Glaciers. The total sum involved in the grant is £2400. and this money will be used to provide telephone facilities between Ball Hut and tho Ilermitagp, thus fulfilling a desire which hundreds of tourists have expressed in recent years, and also to improve the electric lighting plant at the Hermitage. The existing hydro-electric scheme will be brought more up-to-date to ensure a- first-class lighting system. It is probable that the Public Works Department will undertake all this work, although the total sum has been made available to the Mt. Cook Company.
