LUNCH CLUB.
CRICKETER’S ADDRESS. Mr A. G. Roe presided at the first meeting for the year of the Palmerston North Citizens’ Lunch Club, held yesterday, the speaker being Mr N. Galliclian, whose subject was entitled “Memories of Our English Cricket Tour.” The speaker outlined the highlights of the trip Home and the show-places of London subsequently visited. Interesting and humorous anecdotes of the conditions ruling on and off the field were also told. Mr Gallichan said that what was partly responsible for the phenomenal bowling averages made at Lord’s Cricket Ground was the fact that tho ground sloped. When aided by a wind, a bowler bad less difficulty in dismissing the batsmen. While at the Wimbledon tennis courts lie had seen A. C. Stedman, the New Zealander, play, and had overheard Mako, the famous player, pass the remark to a friend that Stedman had the finest forehand in the tournament. The visitors welcomed were Messrs T. Urquhart, of Timaru, and J. Reynolds, of Palmerston North. Mr j. W. Yelvin was welcomed as a new member.
