TABLE FLAT. (From Our Own Correspondent.) APITI, Jan .22. The members of Table Flat Women’s Institute foregathered at the Marfan Block bridge on Thursday. This picnic took the place of the usual monthly meeting, but, unfortunately, not many members were able to be present owing' to haymaking. Those present,- however, with Miss Stanley and Mms Strahan, frorn Apiti, spent a pleasant day. Lunch and afternoon tea wore served and bathing was enjoyed. Competitions for the next monthly meeting were arranged as follow : Jar of’ raspberry jam, vase of flowers, best bloom in the garden. During the afternoon there was" a competition for a miniature garden, winners being Mrs Pettigrew 1, Miss Hogan 2, Mrs H. Jensen 3. The younger children were each given a toy. A competition for the best collection of Native shrubs and trees gathered on the spot was won by Miss E. Jensen, with 31 varieties, Miss E. Malcolm and Miss Rae Jensen having 28 each.
PERSONAL. Miss N. Purnell is the guest of Miss Leslie and Miss R. Purnell. Mr and Mrs A. W. Bird, and Miss Percy,* of Masterton, spent a day or two at fheir home recently after a camping holiday at Mercury Bay. Excellent fishing was enjoyed in the north. They have now left to spend the remaining week or so of the holidays with relatives in Masterton. Mr McKenzie, of Auckland, has been visiting Mr and Mrs E. Miller, of Table Flat. Many years ago he wae the Presbyterian Minister in Apiti, and was later a padre during the War.
