Hundreds of big concerns there had had to face the Bankruptcy Court. The New Zealand teachers’ conference had taken steps to urge the Government to improve teachers’ salaries. It was stated that a married man with 13 years’ service had received only £llO a 'year. News from Sumatra had stated that Dr Elbert, tho German geologist, had discovered human remains which he had estimated were 20,000 years old. He definitely denied that they were the remains of an ape man, and had stated that his discoveries were directly opposed to tho Darwinian theory. Tenement dwellers in New York had gone on strike and had refused to pay their rent When evictions were attempted riots had developed and much damage had been done.
A Manawntu farmer had purchased 200 sacks of Up-to-Dato potatoes for £lO, equal to Is a sack.
